What a year! Instead of a big ramble here’s just a list of things I did:
23 January: talk at DMLab London ๐๏ธ
31 January – 2 February: ran Disability Week at RNCM โฟ๏ธ
1 February: two premieres of pieces, Fuyu-Kyลซ for Kris Halpin and Sails Amongst the Trees for Steve Varden ๐ต
2 March: invited to the BRIT Awards by Mastercard as part of the ‘Future Sounds of Britain’ campaign ๐ชฉ
6 March: seminar at University of the Arts London ๐ฃ๏ธ
9 April: talk at Sonorities Festival, Belfast ๐ค
20 April: talk at ABLE Assemble, Berklee, Boston ๐บ๐ธ
16 May: premiere of Hardcore Prelude by International Contemporary Ensemble in New York ๐บ๐ธ
6 June: release of Live from the Kitchen Table with MSGG (buy the album now) ๐ฟ
13 June: premiere of Limited Edition (Lavender) by Hebrides Ensemble, Claire Johnston and myself in Edinburgh ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ
July – September: worked on the Proms ๐๏ธ
27 July: ran BBC Young Composer workshop in Gateshead โ๏ธ
26 August: ran BBC Young Composer workshop in Bristol โ๏ธ
August – September: tour of Happen #1 around Scandinavia by Anne-Marie O’Farrell (harp) and Timo Kinnunen (accordion)
October: started jobs at Soundabout and The OHMI Trust ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ป
21 October: spoke at Google ๐
November: recorded debut album (out in 2025!) with Liza Bec, Kris Halpin, Steve Varden, Clarence Adoo and Morwenna Louttit-Vermaat ๐ง
I also drafted my PhD thesis, went to loads of gigs, two friends’ weddings, and more travel around the UK that was just for fun.
Looking ahead to 2025…
31 January: premiere of a new piano piece for Yuanfan Yang, in collaboration with people with Parkinson’s. RNCM, Manchester.
31 January: panel discussion on disability. RNCM, Manchester.
January – February: more recording for my debut album
March: I submit my PhD (and turn 30!)
April – May: looking forward to returning to teach at UAL and more possible talks and workshops in the USA
…and hopefully much more! The album will be released some time in 2025.
