A lovely end to the year with a concert from the New Music Collective at Royal Holloway’s historic and beautiful Picture Gallery. The concert featured my piece Under Arches, written as part of a residency in the gallery working in collaboration with Art Curator Harriet O’Neill and composer Michael Finnissy.
Under Arches is written for flute, piano and cello using prepared piano and graphic notation to encourage the musicians to respond directly to the space as they played. The flautist moved gradually through the narrow, high-ceilinged room which is adorned with Neo-Classical paintings; highlighting the acoustic grandeur of the gallery that complimented its collection.
Performed by Gavin Stewart (flute) Vanessa Zuber (piano) and Tom Baynes (cello)
